High scores for the first golf society match of the season at Westgate Golf Course. New skipper Pat Dawkins took the reins for the first time with a big tun out, good weather and a busy set of league and cup matches to organise.
On the day, the most Stableford points winner was Rhys Batty (17HC) 43 points with Tudor Morgan (12HC) just a point behind on 42 points. 9HC Gareth Venables lead the following pack to third with a very respectable 39 points.
The Knock Out Cup started early this year with seven matches played: Rhys Batty beat Pete Kenehan 4 & 3, Gareth Venables beat Charlie Orpin 6 & 5, Phil Balance beat Mick Bevan on the last hole (by spinning a coin!), Terry Porter beat Dan Smith 8 & 6, Nigel Stevenson beat Kingsley Williams 5 & 4, Tony Clarke retired hurt from his match with Bob Simmonds and Ian Neary beat John Knight 5 & 4.
Course spot prizes (pockets of balls) were won by: Pete Kenehan, Tudor Morgan and Paul Sequenza x 2 (nearest the pins) and Tudor again smashed the longest drive.
The 2’s club was won by several members who donated their win to the MPS charity. Winner Rhys Batty backed himself to win the Sweepstake cash prize.
New member Dan Smith had the please of receiving the wooden spoon.
