Driving up to the secure entrance two hours early Pat and Paul assumed they would be there alone for a while before others arrived. They were wrong, Kingsley was visible on the putting greens, Ian and a couple of keen others were excitedly there to view the beautiful Rochester and Cobham welcome, clubhouse and course.
A delightful spread of sandwiches and chips ensued, followed by a talk from an ex captain and skipper of the course, telling us rules and etiquette. Pat explained that this was a skippers day and will be a bit different with extra prizes and a 4 ball team competition as well as the regular comps.Being called up to the tee by the marshall name by name was a great touch.
Blessed by the weather, we were off, all 8 groups just before 3pm, flowing nicely around the stunning parkland course didn’t assist the last 3 or 4 groups from arriving back to the clubhouse in near darkness, poor Tony mentioning he couldn’t see his ball once in the air.
Once everyone was back in the clubhouse (apart from those few who seemed to disappear without a nod), Pat gave a few prizes out.
Winner with a huge Cheshire cat grin was Dave Sears on 38 point off an adjusted 26HC. Long drive was won by Den Turner, nearest the pins won by (add more names) and finally Steve Faulkner who was unfortunately struck on the back by a wayward 230yd ball hit by another member; we hope he is okay today.
Pat kindly gave a trophy to the nearest the pin winners which was a nice gesture.
2’s club rollovers were shared by Rhodri and Kevin. Sweepstake winner was Rhodri. Most golf played winning the spoon was Roy. See you all at Wear Blue for Ethan day in Faversham.
