There is no doubt that Lydd GC is the toughest golfing event on the society calendar, this years annual pilgrimage was no different with temperatures hovering just above freezing plus strong winds and the usual water and sand hazards, a high winning score was going to be unacheivable.
In the past winning Stableford scores at Lydd have been less than 30, this years event saw only 3 members nudge past 30 points and it was 3 experienced member who showed the way.
Two past winners at this venue took 1st and 2nd – Royston Gough first place with 32points and Nigel Stevenson second with 31 points on count-back, just easing out Andy Oxberry also on 31 points.
Royston also took the longest drive, a massive 300 yard strike into the wind, nearest approach was Antony Back with the other nearest the pin un-claimed, likewise the 2s club pot rolled over to March at Chestfield GC.
