It was a damp start to the 2025 season as St Stephen’s launched their first golf society day of the year at Westgate Golf Club.
New member Simon Holmes (27hc) took full advantage of a generous handicap to equal the club points record (Nigel Stevenson, Westgate 2013) of 49 points winning a £30.00 voucher.
13 points behind, countback was required to separate Karl Robson (9hc) 2nd and Kev Mullins (19hc) 3rd as the pack battled for the consolation prizes.
On course awards (sleeve of logo balls) for nearest the pins were won by: Kev Mullins, Karl Robson (2), Mark Sidders and Nigel Stevenson. Simon Holmes added to his voucher with the longest drive.
The coveted wooden spoon award for last place was won by Tony Peacock (28hc) with 26 points after a second countback between Mike Anscombe and Andy Mair.
2’s club (£19.00) will be rolled over to Littlestone in February.
The society also awarded long term member Mick Bevan a personalised pewter mug in celebration of his 60th birthday. Mick also won the Sweepstake having pre-selected the winner.
