Fri 25th July Weald of Kent


A resplendent Weald of Kent GC provided a perfect backdrop for our July 25 society day. With recent heavy rain the course and greens were slightly slower than normal for the time of the year and this reflected in the overall scores.

Ian Neary (19HC) made it 3 on the bounce with an emphatic 39 points despite being cut for the previous months wins. 2nd place went to guest Callum Shaw (22HC) on 36 points just nudging Simon Holmes (22HC) into 3rd place with 35 points.

3 cup matches were also played: Ian Neary (19) beat Roy Coveney (24) 7 and 6. Ian Horsham (11) beat Dave Sears (20) 2 and 1. Bob McDougall (16) beat Mick Bevan (19) 1 up on the final hole. Charlie Orpin v Gareth Venables – cancelled (to be played before next event at a mutually agreed venue).

Spot prices that included a pocket of logo balls each went to 68 year old Nigel Stevenson for the longest drive; Callum Shaw, Les Marley, Mick Bevan, and Bob Simmonds won nearest the pins (par 3s).

£24.00 2’s club was shared by Mick Bevan and Pat Dawkins who agreed to donate to our ‘Hope for Ethan’ charity

Ivor Castle took the wooden spoon on the ‘only win once’ rule.

Club secretary Nigel Stevenson also presented an engraved pewter mug to Ian Horsham for his very special birthday on behalf of all members
