Fri 26th July Lullingstone GC

After 3 attempts St Stephen’s finally managed to return to an old friend. With wide open downland fairways and the sun warming up the adders in the rough, it was a first for many of the attendees.

Senior member Pat Dawkins teeing off on the first at Lullingstone GC

It was a case of nearly Neary as new member Ian Neary (22HC) blew the last hole finishing on 38pts allowing steady lefty Pete Kenehan (14HC) to secure his first win of the season with 39pts. Stand in skipper Paul Sequenza (16HC) pushed hard to force a count back also scoring 38pts but was just pipped on his back 9 total.

Spot prizes went to Nigel Stevenson picking up 2 nearest the pins, new member Phil Ballance and Paul Sequenza also taking the shortest route to the par 3s. Chairman Kevin Mullins again showed it’s not all about bluster with a magnificent 300 yarder to take the longest drive. All receiving a pocket of logo balls.

There were 4 KO Cup matches also decided on the day, 2 very tight matches with Ian Horsham beating Mick Bevan 2 &1 and Kevin Mullins beating Tony Clark by the same margin. In the other 2 matches Ian Nearing beat Phil Ballance 4 and 5, Pete Kenehan beat Derek Bevan 5 and 4.

The wooden spoon was initially awarded to Tony Peacock but because of an 2023 AGM ruling (no member can win the wooden spoon more than once) the committee has agreed to change that award to Rhys Hywell-Batty on countback (with Gareth Venables).

Next event: Sene Valley. All members are encouraged to bring a friend.

As part of our 2024 push for new members, we ask that you bring a buddy to this Sene Valley on the 30th August. No handicap required!
