Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club


The annual golf weekend saw a return to Wensum Valley near Norwich, last trip 2019. The weather was superb and with 2 excellent 18 hole courses, great hotel accommodation and friendly locals made for some very competitive golf over 3 days.

Friday: Wensum Course (skipper Andy Oxberry)

Kent League, Chestfield GC member Karl Robson (10HC) won day one with a confident 37 points as others struggled on this wetland section of the course near the River Wensum. Splashing up 2nd on countback was Simon Fowler (24HC) and Will Weller (20HC) completed the day in 3rd on 36 points.

Dave brown continued is love affair with the wooden spoon.

On course spot prizes went to: Kingsley Williams, Mike Anscombe, Pat Dawkins, Andy Ransley. 2s pot donated to charity

 

Saturday: Valley Course (skipper Gareth Venables)

Another tight Stableford match day saw improved scores on the slightly tamer Valley course. Paul Sequenza (13HC) just nudging Kingsley Williams (10HC) into 2nd again on countback with an impressive 42 points. 3rd place went to on form Simon Fowler (24HC) with a very respectable.

Chris Dawkins was unfortunate to collect the wooden spoon with 26 points.

On course spot prizes went to: Nigel Stevenson, Will Weller, Paul Sequenza, Andy Ransley and Mark Vinter.

The most points competition continued with a 6 man shoot out, the top 6 scorers playing in 2 groups.

Group 1: Ian Neary (16HC-31points), Karl Robson (10HC-37 points) and Dave Cokely (6HC-34 points) all scored well as they chased down the group 2 top 3 on the leader board.

Group 2: Simon Fowler (24HC-26 points) and Paul Sequenza (13HC-30 points) struggled on day. But Kingsley Williams (10HC-30 points) made it a 105 points total for the weekend to win the coveted weekend most points trophy, just beating Karl Robson (10HC) on 104 points and 3rd place Paul Sequenza 102 points on a 3 player countback.

The Texas Scramble competition was completed by the 20 attendees who did not make the cut. 5 x 4 ball groups rocketed around the Wensum in glorious sunshine. The winners with an amazing 13 under par 59 were: Nigel Stevenson (13HC), Kev Mullins (18HC), Gareth Venables (8HC) and Andy Ransley (1HC) which included 13 birdies!
